Welcome

Making is one of the latest trends in libraries. This blog will celebrate and collect ways to connect making to literacy. Using hands-on, creative activities engages readers with books. It appeals to diverse learners and is naturally differentiated.

As a K-5 school librarian, I spend my time split between two schools in South Portland, Maine. They are both great schools that serve diverse populations. One school, Dyer Elementary, is in the process of building a maker space. The other school, Kaler Elementary does not yet have a dedicated space for making, but I still believe that we can bring this programming to those students. I believe that tying making to literacy is one way to teach both the literacy and the 21st century learning goals of the modern school library.
